Webster Technique Melbourne: Optimising Pregnancy and Birth Outcomes

The webster chiropractic technique aims to create space in the pelvis and reduce pressure on the baby to allow it to move freely in the uterus. The webster adjusting techniques focuses on the joints, muscles and ligaments around your pelvis.

Inter-uterine constraint may affect the babies ability to get into an optimal birth position and the restriction in the pelvis may cause pelvic pain for the pregnant mother.

Dr Webster felt that specific chiropractic techniques could help women in the future to have better pregnancies and births. Dr Webster focused on the idea of inter-uterine constraint which may affect a baby’s movement inside the uterus.

How is the webster chiropractic technique performed?

Your Chiropractor will assess your pelvis and find the imbalance in movement. This will determine which side of the pelvis they will adjust.

The initial adjustment is usually performed while you are laying face down.

Your chiropractor will have a pregnancy pillow for you to lay on (it’s a pillow with a hole in it to make sure there’s no pressure on your baby).

After your sacrum is adjusted the chiropractor will then perform some soft tissue releases. Your chiropractor will then get you positioned on your back and adjust your pubic symphysis and do some more soft tissue releases.

The adjustments and muscle releases are all very gentle and shouldn’t cause you any extra pain. If you feel uncomfortable with any of the adjustments or muscle releases please let your chiropractor know.

Who would benefit from the Webster Technique?

Any pregnant woman can benefit from the Webster Technique. Initially the Webster Technique was seen as a way of turning a breech baby but we now know that all pregnant women can benefit from it.

The webster technique can also help with leg pain, low back pain and ligament tightness.
